The fashion industry, is the second most polluting one after the oil industry. Indeed, it requires 32 million olympic swimming pools filled with water to realize its production. It is thus, very pollutting. In our society of mass consumption, people are consuming more and more, and always looking for new things to buy.
Fast fashion brands have created a way to answer to this always increasing demand by changing their collection every 6 or 8 weeks. However, some clothes remain unsold. More than 600 000 clothes are unsold each year in France. Those unsold clothes are often destroyed rather than being donated. Many fashion brands have been accused of destroying their remaining stocks. For instance, H&M, the swedish giant of fast fashion, is accused of burning 12 tons of unsold clothing per year.
To answer to the massive amount of waste in the fashion industry, we have decided to create a mobile application: Janus Clothing.
This application is a platform that connects fast fashion brands with remaining stocks and consumers who want to buy at lower costs and participate in saving our planet. It will function the same way as any online shop where the consumers can choose from a wide range of clothes and sizes.
