The project in a few lines
The aim of the project is to suggest improvements of the current electric vehicles policy in Paris. Indeed in France and even in its capital Paris, the number of electric vehicles is lower than in other countries and cities. Our goal was to understand why, to analyse case studies where the situation is better and then to adapt their experiences to the specific case of Paris.
Why this project ?
- Because the context of Paris enables easily the use of electric vehicles (daily trajects, no problems of autonomy)
- Because Paris suffers from pollution problems and that the development of electric vehicles could be part of the solution
- Because if a good policy works in Paris, it could inspire the rest of the country and encourage a more global development
- Because the use of electric vehicles is a sign of modernity and of environmental respect, and can give a good image of a country/city. Thanks to the “COP 21” and existing initiatives Paris has already a good image in terms of green actions and the development of electric vehicles could enable to follow these efforts.
Our ideas
The study of the Parisian context and of case studies in different cities/countries where electric cars are more widely used has enabled us to suggest some ideas of policy improvements :
- To increase the number of charging infrastructures in Ile de France, as their number and density encourage the use of electric cars
- To set up these charging points in private parkings and create partnerships with major parking companies (price reductions, subventions…), notably in park-and-ride
- To set up financial incentives for users (more than what already exists), such as : acquisition taxes cutting, creation of a loan with a zero interest rate for an electric car acquisition
- To communicate more about all the incentives put in place because citizens currently lack pieces of information which are not broadly available
It appears to be very important to have a simple way of communication to present our ideas such as the one below.
