GREEN COTTON

The fashion industry is the second biggest polluter in the world. Among the industry’s worst impact on the environment you can find: water pollution, large water consumption, spread of microfibers in the ocean, wastes accumulation, chemical addiction, greenhouse gases emission, soils degradation and desertification and rainforest destruction. Moreover, in addition to its strong negative impact on the environment, the fashion industry encompasses issues of working conditions in the textile industry.

Considering these facts and the lack of transparency of brands regarding their supply chains’ social and environmental impact, we identified the crucial issue of customers’ awareness in clothing choices and the need for change in the process of clothes production.

Thus, the question we have identified is ‘how can we create an incentive for clothing brands to become more responsible environmentally and socially, through their customers?’.

We believe that such a change is necessary for the Great Transition, as making the second biggest polluting industry more responsible will help stop environment destruction, while pushing for a greater business responsibility from large companies.
