Reducing food waste and improving your diet by buying just what you need and just the right amount!!
Our project is based on two issues that englobe “Food”
Food is massively wasted throughout its production and consumption cycles. According to a research conducted under FAO,”in industrialized countries more than 40% of losses happen at retail and consumer levels”.
Today, we see althroughout the city numerous supermarkets that offer consumers an enormous variety of food products to choose from; vegetables, fruits, pre-cooked plates, frozen food, dairy products, etc… Though, how much of these products are actually consumed? How much of the products end up getting thrown out?
When we look into individual households, we often find refridgerators, freezers and cupboards filled with food but how much of this ends up in the bin?
Today, especially among the young generation, following a healthy diet is not a simple task.
Time-wise, Cost-wise, Knowledge-wise, choosing what to cook and what to buy as well as deciding on how much to buy is for a considerate number of people a bothersome task.
Thus, people tend to resort to the easy and fast diet of pre-cooked food that is not always ideal in terms leading a healthy and sustainable diet.
Both of these are important issues.
SO, our question throughout the semester was;
How can we tackle both problems with one project???
The following link with the video and a protocol of our original application is a description of what we came up with as a hybrid solution for the raised two food issues.
