Plat’Net

We decided to come up with a project that will help reduce the damage caused to the environment by the food industry. This collective project is called Plat’Net.

Plat’Net works through both a mobile application and a website that will offer information as well as measurement for every food product we buy in stores around Paris. Through our mobile application and website, one will be able to have a measure of how much resources have gone up into the manufacturing and processing of their desired product, as well as information on its carbon footprint.

How it works

By downloading Plat’Net for free, consumers will have access to information regarding a wide array of food products that are sold in stores all around Paris. Every time a customer wants to know more about a certain product, they can simply type in the name and brand of the product to get information on its production. Each item will also be attributed a score on a 0 - 10 scale that will act as a measurement of the environmental impact the processing of the given item has had. 0 will indicate the most polluting items and 10 the most environmentally friendly items.

Our goals

We set our goals both on an individual and collective level. The main objective of the app is to provide knowledge on the ecological impact of the food products we buy on a daily basis, as a means to raise awareness about climate issues as well as change daily consumer habits. On a collective level, we hope that our results in terms of changing people’s mentalities will also impact food processing industries and suppliers as the demand for more environmentally-friendly products increase. Finally, we hope to develop the coverage of the app outside the city of Paris, on a national level, and maybe with time, in more countries around the world.
